Search Engine Optimization is the science of getting pages on your website high search engine rankings for specific keywords. A keyword is a term that a person types into the search box on Google, Yahoo, MSN, Alta Vista or another search engine. For example, a person might type your company's name into Google's Search Engine trying to find you. Does your company's website come up on the first page?

If so, you are on the right track. You want to make it easy for motivated searchers to get directly to your website. These rankings are called "natural" or "organic" rankings. That is, the search engines are giving you a ranking based on your websites attributes and not because you are paying a fee or "pay-per-click" or PPC.
